Formerly known as The Axe Tavern pub. Once gutted, our Founder, Neil McDonnell was left with a blank canvas and a big idea. Barlounge began its journey with a focus on community, warm welcomes, great food and cocktails in comfort.
Word spread fast. Barlounge became a regular meeting spot for long lunches, after-work drinks, late nights and everything in between, earning a loyal crowd who came as much for atmosphere as for the attentive service.
A cocktail culture exploded, so did the bar. Skills sharpened, classics were perfected, creativity grew and Barlounge built a reputation for drinks done properly – no shortcuts, no gimmicks.
The kitchen stepped up a gear. Menus evolved, techniques improved and sharing-style favourites were refined, marking a shift towards skilled cooking without losing approachability.
Booths, layout and flow were refined to encourage guests to settle in. Barlounge became a place where one drink often turned into dinner – and dinner into another round.
Today Barlounge builds on 25 years of experience with a renewed focus on craft, consistency and atmosphere. An open-kitchen, bespoke wood-fired oven and hands-on team bring guests closer to energy behind the food and drinks, while familiar favourites remain firmly on menu.
